THE BASICS

Car detailing vs. a car wash: what are you actually booking?

Understand the difference between a quick wash and a detail, and ask the right questions before you book.

Start with the job you need done.

A car wash generally focuses on removing everyday exterior dirt. A detail is a more specific appointment, with work selected for the condition of the vehicle and the areas you want addressed. Names vary between businesses, so compare what is included rather than the package name alone.

Interior, exterior, or both?

An interior-focused service may be the right conversation when the cabin is your main concern. Exterior detailing focuses on the surfaces outside. A full detail combines interior and exterior work, but the exact scope still needs to be confirmed. At MPG, our MPG Refresh package is the full interior and exterior option.

Polishing and protection are separate decisions.

A clean car does not automatically need paint correction. Polishing, gloss enhancement, and ceramic coatings are distinct services to discuss after assessing the paint. Tell the detailer about existing coatings, film, repaired panels, and any manufacturer care instructions.

What to ask before booking anywhere in the US.

Ask what is included, what costs extra, how vehicle size and condition affect the quote, what workspace is required, and whether your requested time is confirmed. For mobile work, discuss parking, property permission, water and power arrangements, and the weather plan.
